Man to face court on multiple charges

An 18-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 8 October 2018), charged with a number of driving offences.

About 5:30pm last night (Sunday, 7 October 2018), police attended an address in Mawson in relation to the report of a burglary.

The burglary occurred while the resident was at home with numerous items stolen including a white Kia Picanto station wagon.

Throughout Sunday evening, police observed the Kia Picanto bearing ACT registration YAU40P in Mawson, Gowrie and Isabella Plains. On each occasion the Kia Picanto was being driven at high speeds while trying to avoid police.

About 11:30pm, police observed the Kia Picanto had collided with a wooden bollard in the carpark of the Calwell Neighbourhood Oval and the driver fleeing on foot.

Police dog Axe located the driver hiding in the backyard of a Calwell residence.

The man has been charged with driving a motor vehicle without consent, possess stolen property, driving with a prescribed drug in oral fluid, aggravated dangerous driving, using a vehicle without required number plates and unaccompanied learner driver. Police will oppose bail.
