Man to face court for animal cruelty causing death

A 27-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Saturday, 31 August 2019), charged with animal cruelty.

About 6.20pm on Thursday (29 August), police attended a residence in Macquarie following the report of a man punching a dog to death.

Police will allege about 4.30pm on Wednesday (28 August), in the backyard of the residence, the man attacked a dog belonging to his ex-partner with a shovel.

The dog was euthanised a short time later by a veterinarian due to the severity of its injuries.

About 10.50pm yesterday (30 August), police located the man in Rivett. The man was arrested and transported him to ACT Watch House.

The 27-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court today charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal causing death. Police will oppose bail.
