Man to face court for aggravated burglary and assault

A 19-year-old Franklin man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Thursday, 12 October), in relation to an aggravated burglary and assault which occurred in May 2017.

About 7.30pm on Monday 8 May, two males forcibly entered a residence in Kaleen, armed with various weapons including a knife, baseball bat and a metal pole. The males seriously assaulted the occupants before fleeing the scene on foot.

Two victims were injured and were transported to The Canberra Hospital by the ACT Ambulance Service.

The ongoing police investigation identified the 19-year-old as one of the alleged offenders. About 10.45am yesterday, police arrested the man in the City and conveyed him to the ACT Watch House.

He will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning, charged with aggravated burglary, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm. Police will oppose bail.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
