Man to face court after driving at police

Facing Court

A 29-year-old man from Ngunnawal will face numerous charges including new offences relating to driving at police and damaging a police vehicle.

About 2.30pm on Saturday, 11 July 2020, police arrived at a unit complex in Ngunnawal to arrest the man.

Police will allege the man attempted to avoid being arrested, and in doing so deliberately reversed a car towards the officers, who managed to move out of the way. The police were not injured.

It will be further alleged that the man’s car collided with another vehicle and a shed before he drove at police for a second time. The man then attempted to flee the scene on foot after his car collided with the police vehicle and drove through an open carport and collided with a fence.

Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance during the incident.

The man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning (Monday, 13 July) on seven charges including the new Section 29A and 29B offences for driving at police and damaging a police vehicle, fail to stop, and dangerous driving offences.
