Man arrested for vehicle theft

ACT Policing has arrested a 26-year-old man in Downer yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 6 January) for the theft of a motor vehicle and trailer.

At about 12.15pm, police observed a man on Antill Street Dickson who they knew was in breach of bail. When they approached the man, he ran from police in the direction of Downer where police lost sight of him.

About 1.50pm that same date, police received a report that a man had stolen a Toyota Landcruiser that was located in Padbury Street, Downer.

At 4.30pm, police located the man outside Coles at Manuka and arrested him for breach of bail. He informed police that his identification was in his vehicle parked on Bouganville Street.

At the time of arrest, the man was in possession of keys that belonged to the stolen Toyota Landcruiser which was parked on Bouganville Street. Attached to the Landcruiser was a grey trailer that had also been reported as stolen.

The man was taken to the ACT Watch House and charged with Take Vehicle without Authority, Theft and Breaching Bail conditions.

Both the vehicle and trailer were forensically examined and returned to their respective owners.
