Man arrested after drink driving incidents

A 56-year-old Theodore man has been arrested after being apprehended twice within 60 minutes for drink driving offences on Saturday night (27 June).

Around 6:45pm, police were patrolling along Yamba Drive, Isaacs when they saw a blue Ford utility driving without its headlights on. The officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver underwent a roadside breath test which returned a positive result. The man was conveyed to Woden Police Station for a breath analysis that returned a result of 0.215.

The man was issued an immediate licence suspension notice and told that he would receive a summons to appear in court at a later date. He was then released from police custody.

Around 7:45pm, the same officers from the earlier incident saw the blue Ford utility driving along Erindale Drive, Fadden. The officers conducted a traffic stop and saw the man they earlier apprehended driving the utility. The man was returned to Woden Police Station for a breath analysis that returned a result of 0.199.

As a result the man was arrested and conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with two counts of Exceed the Prescribed Content of Alcohol and one charge of Driving Whilst Licence Cancelled or Suspended.

Acting Superintendent Susie Ball from Traffic Operations said that the actions of the man were inexcusable and showed a lack of respect for the law and other motorists.

This man was arrest and conveyed to the ACT Watch House due to being a repeat offender. His actions showed a clear lack of judgement and common sense.

“By removing alcohol and drug impaired drivers from our roads, overall community safety is improved and the possibilities of serious or fatal vehicle collisions are significantly reduced,” Acting Superintendent Ball said.
