Man arrested after disturbance in Wanniassa

A 29-year-old Bonython man is due to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today to face multiple charges after a disturbance in Wanniassa on Saturday (12 September 2020).

Police will allege that about 1.30pm on Saturday, the man entered a Wanniassa car park armed with weapons including a home-made knife and a golf club, and started throwing golf balls at several nearby properties.

The man then confronted several residents of a nearby unit complex, assaulting one resident and threatening others. He then entered one unit and attempted to enter another.

When police arrived at the unit complex, they located the man in a third unit, and arrested him.

The man was refused bail from the watch house, and police will oppose bail when he faces the following charges in the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday morning:

  • Possess Offensive Weapon with Intent (3 counts)
  • Aggravated Burglary – Intent to Damage Property
  • Burglary
  • Damage Property (3 counts)
  • Destroy Property
  • Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm
  • Trespass on Premises
