Loaded gun found in car in Gilmore

ACT Policing located a loaded firearm while searching a car following a traffic stop in Gilmore yesterday (Monday 1 June).

About 3.45pm, Woden Patrol members conducted a traffic stop on Heagney Crescent, Gilmore, involving a Nissan Pulsar sedan. Police identified the car as a stolen vehicle and identified the occupants of the vehicle. A male occupant of the car left the area while a female was arrested in relation to the stolen motor vehicle. Police subsequently searched the car, locating and seizing a loaded shortened .22 calibre rifle and ammunition. The firearm was identified as stolen.

The 26-year-old female was taken to the Tuggeranong Police Station to participate in an interview. She was later released.  

Police attended the residence of the male occupant of the vehicle and were allowed entry by a person on the premises. Police located and seized two further firearms, a .22 calibre long arm and a home-made single-shot .22 calibre spring action firearm, along with ammunition.

Police investigations are ongoing.
