Kambah man to face court on 12 charges

A 28-year-old Kambah man will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Monday, 16 September 2019) on 12 charges including firearms, property and driving offences, and escaping from custody.

ACT Policing will allege the man was riding an unregistered motorbike dangerously through Wanniassa about 10am on Saturday morning.

The man allegedly attempted to flee, but fell off the motorbike, and was arrested in Greenway about 10.10am. During the arrest, officers used a conducted electrical weapon (CEW) to restrain him.

Police will further allege the motorbike was stolen property, and that the man was in possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Following his arrest, the man was taken to hospital for a medical examination. About 6.50pm the man attempted to leave the hospital, but was detained by police while still in the building.

Two people were injured as the man ran through the hospital.

ACT Policing is investigating the events at the hospital and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident in the hospital, who has not yet spoken to police.
