Help prevent burglaries and vehicle related crime

ACT Policing would like to remind the community about the importance of remaining vigilant about suspicious activity in their suburb after an increase in burglaries and stolen motor vehicles in Gungahlin during December 2018.

ACT Policing would also like to remind the community about the importance of vehicle security as vehicle break-ins and vehicle theft often go hand in hand with burglaries.

Police, including Patrol members, the ACT Policing Crime Disruption Team and Intelligence teams, have been working together to combat this rise, and identify and apprehend those responsible.

However, the community also has a part to play in not only helping to identify offenders, but to prevent crime in the first instance by following crime prevention advice and reporting suspicious activity to police as soon as possible on 131444, 000 if it’s an emergency or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if it doesn’t require an immediate police response.

Safety tips for your home and vehicle include:

  • Lock doors and windows even when you are at home;
  • Trim bushes and trees that obscure windows;
  • Get to know your neighbours and who is supposed to live there;
  • Ensure the doors, windows and boot to your vehicle are locked;
  • Do not leave valuables in your vehicle like your wallet, phone or tablet, even if it’s locked; and
  • Take the keys to your vehicle with you, and when at home leave them in a secure place.
