Drunk driver damages multiple vehicles

ACT Policing arrested a 74-year-old man on Sunday evening (24 August), after his vehicle collided with several vehicles in Weston.

About 6pm, the man drove his white Mitsubishi Verada sedan toward the exit of the car park to the Weston Canberra Irish Club on Parkinson Street. He collided with a parked Subaru Impreza sedan, which forced the Subaru into a blue Mazda utility, causing major damage to the Subaru.

The man continued to drive towards the exit when his vehicle collided with a parked white Mazda hatchback, causing minor damage to it.

On leaving the car park, the man drove across Parkinson Street, mounted the curb and collided with an electrical substation, causing damage. He continued to drive east on Parkinson Street a short distance before coming to a stop.

Off duty police officers arrived at the club shortly after the collision and located the man in his vehicle. Members of the Collision Investigation and Reconstruction team arrived and the man underwent roadside alcohol screening, returning a positive result. He was then conveyed to Woden Police Station where he underwent breath analysis, returning a reading of 0.082.

ActewAGL attended to repair the damaged electrical substation which left local businesses and residents without power for approximately six hours.

The man will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
