Drunk, disqualified driver fails to stop at police roadblock

Facing court

ACT Policing officers last night arrested a 60-year-old man and charged him with numerous offences following an incident at a roadblock on the Monaro Highway.

At about 8.30pm last night (Thursday 30 May 2019) a truck fire was reported on the southbound lanes of the Monaro highway adjacent to Hume. Police established a roadblock at the intersection of Lanyon Drive to divert traffic.

Shortly after the roadblock was established, the driver of a white utility ignored police directions and proceeded through the roadblock, striking one officer (who was not injured) and drove towards the truck fire.

A short time later, the utility was stopped by police and a 60-year-old man was arrested and his vehicle was seized.

He was subsequently charged with driving while disqualified, driving under the influence of alcohol (.150) and fail to stop when directed by police.

He will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Friday 31 May 2019).
