Drink driver caught in school car park

ACT Policing will summons a 60-year-old Palmerston man caught drink driving while dropping his granddaughter to school in Nicholls yesterday (Monday August 18).

About 8.50am, police received a report that a gold Toyota Avalon had collided into two parked cars in the car park of the Holy Spirit Primary School on Anne Clark Avenue, Nicholls.

Witnesses informed police that the same vehicle had been seen driving erratically between Palmerston and Nicholls, colliding with a road sign and mounting the curb before entering the school car park and colliding with two parked vehicles.

Police conducted a breath screening test on the 60-year-old driver of the Toyota, returning a positive blood alcohol reading of 0.197. The driver confirmed he had been driving his young granddaughter to school at the time of the collision.

ACT Ambulance Service was in attendance following the collision and conveyed the driver to The Canberra Hospital for a blood test. The young girl did not require medical treatment.

The man will be summonsed to face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
