Careless driver issued fines totalling $726.00

Police vehicle in traffic with flashing red and blue lights

About 7.55am this morning (Friday, 23 February 2018) a vehicle overtook an unmarked police vehicle on Parkes Way, Russell.  It is alleged the woman driving the vehicle was talking on her mobile phone (and speeding) while a young child was also in the back seat of the vehicle.

When stopped, the woman said she was calling her workplace to inform them she was late for work.

The message from police is clear – do not speed and do not use hand held mobile devices when driving. The combination of these two actions placed this driver and those around her at a much greater risk of a serious accident.

The woman was subsequently issued two traffic infringement notices, one for speeding and one for using a hand held mobile phone, totaling $726.00
