Canberra Cup crowds well behaved

ACT Policing is pleased that the vast majority of Canberra’s Melbourne Cup revelers enjoyed the festivities responsibly across the Capital yesterday (November 4).

Police maintained a high-visibility presence at Thoroughbred Park, Lyneham, and Canberra’s entertainment precincts throughout the day, with three males taken into custody.

The crowd at Canberra’s Thoroughbred Park was generally well behaved, with only minor disturbances throughout the day. One intoxicated male was taken into custody when he refused to leave Thoroughbred Park when requested and was later released into the care of a family member.

Large crowds of revelers enjoyed festivities at Dickson’s entertainment venues, which saw police responding to several minor disturbances in that area. Regional Targeting Team members arrested one male for Breach of the Peace and a second male for assault and trespassing.

Operational Commander Acting Superintendent Adrian Craft was pleased that revelers enjoyed the day responsibly.

“With large numbers of people enjoying Canberra’s entertainment venues yesterday, we were pleased that minor disturbances here and there didn’t escalate into serious incidents. This is a testament to the generally well behaved crowd and responsiveness of our officers throughout the day,” A/Superintendent Craft said.
