Call for witnesses following child approach

Call for witnesses following child approach.

ACT Policing is calling for witnesses following an alleged child approach in Giralang earlier this month.

About 12.40pm on Wednesday 18 March 2020, a man approached two children on Atalumba Close in Giralang.

It is alleged the man was walking between the primary school and the child care centre when he touched the children on their upper body. The children ran back to school and the man fled the area on foot.

Police have released two face-fit images of the one alleged offender. These face-fit images have been supplied from each of the victims in the Giralang incident.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance with short black hair and about 30 years-old. He was wearing a black jumper with the hood up, blue shorts and running shorts and running shoes. Both boys described a crown style tattoo on his left bicep.

While neither child was injured, police take these approaches seriously and are investigating.

Anyone who may have information (including CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area) that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Please quote reference 6510881. Information can be provided anonymously.

General information

Police encourage parents, guardians and teachers to make sure children understand how to keep themselves safe, particularly when walking to and from school, and to teach children about stranger safety. Information on ways to help children to stay safe is available on the Constable Kenny Koala website.

An ACT Policing face-fit is a graphical representation of a face, constructed by an artist working with a witness. A mixture of technology and artistry creates an image, usually from individual facial features which are then put together to come up with a final composite image.
