Burglars caught red handed

ACT Policing has apprehended two offenders attempting a burglary in a home in Kaleen on Monday (29 June).

About 10.30am, a 17-year-old teenage boy and 18-year-old woman attended a house on Warrego Circuit entering the rear yard of the residence through a carport.

About 11.05am they walked around the side of the house to a kitchen window and removed the fly screen. At this time a neighbour who witnessed the incident take place, called police operations.

One of the offenders picked up a nearby roof tile and used it to break the kitchen window to gain entry, after which they opened the laundry door for the other offender to enter.

While inside they opened cupboards and draws and filled their pockets with several items belonging to the owners of the residence including jewellery, phones, car keys and cash.

Police arrived at 11.15am and entered through the rear of the property, locating the offenders in the main bedroom and arrested them.

The owner of the property attended the house and confirmed the items taken belonged to him.

The two offenders were transported to the Belconnen Police Station where they took part in interviews.

The woman will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning charged with Aggravated Burglary with intent to commit theft and attempt minor theft.

The 17-year-old will face the ACT Children’s Court this morning facing the same charges.
