Three to face court charged with murder

A 60-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man from NSW and a 29-year-old Canberra man will face ACT Magistrates Court charged with the murder of 81-year-old Katherine Panin in her Red Hill home on 12 October 2015.

On 12 October 2015, police attended Katherine’s Red Hill residence in response to a report of a deceased woman who had reportedly fallen down the stairs.

During an extensive investigation, police conducted enquiries and in June 2016, executed search warrants in the ACT on two addresses and three vehicles.

As a result of all enquiries, about 9:30am this morning, police arrested the 60 year old female in Red Hill and a 29-year-old man in Belconnen.  The A 31 year old male was arrested by Police in NSW and is in the process of being extradited to the ACT.

All three offenders will face the ACT Magistrates Court charged with murder. ACT Policing detectives will oppose bail.

Detective Superintendent J.H. (Ben) Cartwright acknowledged the dedication and commitment shown by ACT Policing members over the 23 months of this complex inquiry.

 “Detectives have been working tirelessly on this investigation.  They have followed every lead resulting in the arrest of the persons responsible for Katherine’s murder.”

“The complex nature of homicide investigations, such as these, require expertise, commitment and immense sensitivity. The Community trusts us to bring these offenders before court and we need to provide some closure to the family and friends of Katherine.”
