Police target drink and drug drivers

ACT Policing set its sights on drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol in a targeted operation on the Tuggeranong Parkway yesterday (14 September).

Members of ACT Policing Traffic Operations conducted 1200 random breath tests and 20 random drug tests. One drunk driver, two drug drivers and two disqualified drivers were detected. Police also issued 11 Traffic Infringement Notices and two people were arrested on First Instance Warrants.

Officer in Charge Traffic Operations, Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman said ACT Policing will continue to target reckless drivers doing the wrong thing.

“It is always disappointing for police when people are detected driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. These drivers are not only risking their lives, but the lives of others when they’re on the road.”

“Community safety and reducing the potential for serious or fatal accidents is a priority for ACT Policing, and we will continue to target drink and drug drivers,” Station Sergeant Boorman said.
