Police Apprehend Recidivist Graffiti Offender

An 18-year-old man from Hawker will face the ACT Magistrates Court in January 2018.

About 2:30am this morning, ACT Policing were on patrol in the Scullin area when they observed a male wearing all dark clothing walk across Kingsford Smith Drive.

Police stopped and spoke with the male observing a number of different coloured paint stains on his top, pants and boots.

The male was also carrying a shopping bag that contained items including six aerosol spray paint cans.

A short time later, police observed a Colorbond style fence with a large area of freshly spray painted graffiti across it. The graffiti included the word 'SURGE.'

The male was transported to Belconnen Police Station (where he was interviewed) then the ACT Watch House where he was charged with property damage.

ACT Policing is aware of numerous graffiti incidents in the Belconnen area including the word ‘SURGE’.

Police are urging anyone in the Belconnen area who had their property damaged overnight with graffiti or who may have any information that could assist police to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website.
