Man to face court over indecent assault of child in March 2019

Facing Court

A 32-year-old man from Ngunnawal will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (6 July, 2020) charged over the alleged indecent assault of a nine-year-old child in March, 2019.

Police allege that about 11.30am on Sunday, 31 March 2019, a man approached the child who was walking through the underpass of Ratcliffe Crescent, at the rear of Florey shops, and committed an act of indecency upon her.

The ACT Policing Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team (SACAT) arrested the man at a residence in Ngunnawal earlier today following an extensive investigation into the incident.

He has been charged with one count of act of indecency on a person under the age of 10 years.

Police received a number of Crime Stoppers reports in relation to this incident following a call for witnesses and information in April, 2019. Police would like to sincerely thank members of the public who provided information in relation to this matter.

With ACT school holidays starting today, Police encourage parents and guardians to make sure children understand how to keep themselves safe, and to teach children about stranger safety. Information on ways to help children to stay safe is available on the Constable Kenny Koala website.

If you become aware of an incident, or notice anyone acting suspiciously around a child, contact police immediately on 131 444, or in the case of an emergency call 000.
