ACT Policing has responded to an incident at the Australian National University (ANU) this morning (25 August 2017).

Shortly after 9am, a man allegedly assaulted students and a lecturer with a baseball bat. During the class, the student stood from his seat with a baseball bat and approached the lecturer at the front of the class. Police took the 18-year-old man into custody and there is no known ongoing threat to public safety. The man is not known to police or intelligence agencies.

ACT Policing investigations are ongoing. At this early stage in the investigation it is too early to determine the motivation behind the assaults.
