Man in court for weekend sexual assault

A 52-year-old Hawker man will face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on seven charges arising from a sexual assault on a woman on Saturday evening (27 June 2020).

Police will allege the man prevented the woman from leaving his residence, throwing several knives at her, before assaulting and attempting to choke the woman, then sexually assaulting her.  

Police arrested the man on Sunday afternoon (28 June). He was taken to hospital for assessment under police guard. Police will allege he also assaulted a nurse who was attempting to provide him with medication while at the hospital.

The man is scheduled to appear at the ACT Magistrates Court charged with sexual assault, sexual intercourse without consent, forcible confinement, choke, suffocate, strangle another person, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, assault frontline community service worker.
