High range drink driver caught twice in 24 hours

A 33-year-old Amaroo man who was subject to a good behaviour order will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, 8 November 2023) after being caught high range drink driving twice in 24 hours.    

About 9.30pm on Monday, 6 November, police on patrol in Amaroo observed a silver Toyota Camry travelling north on Horse Park Drive. This vehicle was travelling at low speed, while allegedly veering between both lanes, almost striking another vehicle, and mounting a median strip.    

Police stopped the vehicle and subjected the driver to a roadside breath test, which was positive for alcohol. The man was taken to Gungahlin Police Station, where he returned a breath analysis of 0.301- more than six times the legal limit.    

The man was served an immediate suspension notice, suspending his right to drive for 90 days.    

About 2.15pm on Tuesday, 7 November, police were called to attend to a silver Camry travelling south on Gungahlin Drive. Reports indicated the vehicle had been swerving across both lanes of Gungahlin Drive.    

Police attended and immediately recognised the driver from interactions the previous evening. The man was again subjected to a roadside breath test, which was again positive for alcohol. After again being transported to Gungahlin Police Station, the man returned a breath analysis of 0.345 – almost seven times the legal limit.    

He has been charged with two counts of drink driving, two counts of drive while disqualified, and single counts of drive while suspended and breaching a good behaviour order.
