ACT Policing target alcohol and drug impaired driving in December

ACT Policing’s traffic focus will be ‘alcohol and drug impaired driving’ for the month of December.

As part of this focus, our traffic vehicles will display new safety designs on the rear windows, reminding Canberra drivers to stay safe on our roads.

Alcohol and drug impaired driving is one of the five highest contributing factors to fatal vehicle collisions on ACT Roads, known as the ‘Fatal Five’.

To date for 2017, ACT Policing has apprehended and charged 900 drink driving offenders and 461 drug driving offenders.

ACT Policing will continue to do our part by performing random breath and drug testing to help make our roads a safer place.

Sergeant Stuart Burrows from Traffic Operations said, “Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for their actions on our roads”.

“Drink or drug driving/ riding puts yourself and other road users at risk”.

“Make a daily choice to not mix alcohol or drugs and driving. Make the road safer for all road users”.
